Baroqueux

Les baroqueux are revisionists resisting the post-Romantic mainstream hegemons of the 20th century, conspicuously (or figuratively) against Otto Klemperer, Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan who were the ostensible "normalizers" [a caustic euphemism] of Baroque repertoire and performance. The pioneers of the movement were, among many others, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Gustav Leonhardt, who began re-exploring and drastically changing the performance of early classical (Baroque) music in the 1950s.

Les Géants attaquèrent le ciel, Jupiter les foudroya;
Typhon, et Encelade étaient les plus considérables.
Devant les dieux ces géants pervertis
De leur malheur n'étant pas avertis,
Au firmament présentent l'escalade,
Là Typhon monte, ici grimpe Encelade,
Jupiter prend des foudres assortis.
Ces vastes corps les ont bien ressentis,
Jusqu'au dernier tous son anéantis,
On leur faire une rude cascade.

Devant les dieux.
Leurs monts sur eux se sont apesantis,
Un peu trop tard ils s'étaient repentis
D'une si brusque, et si haute incartade.
Contre le ciel frivole est la bravade,
Et n'en déplaise aux grands, ils sont petits.
Devant les dieux.

Goddess Diana sings: "Destiny holds secret the places I have led you ... I have carefully given you new powers in these fortunate places that Saturn has chosen to restore the world to its happy infancy. Gods give kings the virtue to begin the century!"
